Oh Kannada!

Bangalore is in the Indian state of Karnataka, where the primary language is Kannada. It is written in the beautiful curvy Kannada script, which along with written English is more common in this city than Hindi's script, known as Devanagari.

This includes silly signs at the neighborhood park, where you are allowed to do anything as long as it isn't fun (click to enlarge):

Exploring the neighborhood...

We are staying with our friends Deepak and Rashmi in the southeast part of the fast-growing city of Bangalore. Here's their apartment building:

Our first brief walk a few blocks around the neighborhood was a step into another world. A world where you can have a refreshing coconut drink on a street corner...

Or get your clothes ironed too!

Of course, he also comes by the apartment every Monday...

Arrived in Bangalore!!

We're here, we're jet-lagged, and trying to let it sink in...

Vancouver! (day one)

To practice our non-existent blogging skills for India, we needed a short and sweet adventure to write about. So we hit the road to Vancouver on our last weekend in North America to get a taste of Olympic fever. Thanks to our generous friends for the trip up there and the lovely accommodations! The first night we walked around the seawall near BC Place, looking towards the Olympic Village and 'Science World', currently repurposed as the Russian pavilion.

Two weeks until India!

Welcome to Curry-osity, Lori and Brian's travel blog for our big trip to India! We hope to keep everyone up to date on our adventures as we embark upon our first big trip as newlyweds. We head out February 25 and come back in mid-May. How can we manage such a long trip, you may ask? Here's how we did it:
  1. Study and work hard to become architects
  2. Enjoy our careers
  3. Watch those careers get torpedoed by the great Recession of 2008-2010 (and counting)
  4. Tell the economy to 'shove it' and decide to make the most of this gift of time
  5. Be sure to have become friends with someone in India ten years earlier, who will graciously and generously host us for a significant portion of our trip. More on him later...
Thanks for visiting. We hope to post updates about once a week. Your visits and comments will encourage us!
